There are two costs associated with membership:
Purchasing a share in the cooperative, which entitles you to live in a specific unit.
A monthly charge to cover ongoing expenses of the cooperative. Examples include heat, water, taxes, insurance, maintenance and upkeep, management staff, etc.

No, Calvary Center Cooperative is an independent organization that is 100% owned by its members. The cooperative is not owned by or affiliated with Calvary Church next door, or with any other church or religious organization. The cooperative also is not affiliated with the neighboring Calvary Center Apartments.

Instead of in-unit laundry facilities, CCC has three washers and three dryers located on floors 3, 6, and 9, for a total of nine washers and nine dryers in the building.
The machines are coin-operated, but the cost is much less than machines at a laundromat would be. Coins can be conveniently purchased at the cooperative.
If you choose to have housekeeping services, optional laundry services can be added to regular in-unit housekeeping.

Members may redecorate their units at their own cost. CCC has a list of recommended painting and flooring professionals who are easy to work with, do excellent work and are reasonably priced. This takes the guesswork out of hiring contractors to do the redecorating work.
Changes beyond paint and flooring need to be approved by management. Work needs to be completed by a licensed and insured contractor.

Standard appliances, including stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, and one or more air conditioners, are provided in the units. These standard appliances are owned and maintained by the Cooperative.
The provided standard appliances are considered mid-grade. If desired, upgraded appliances may be purchased and maintained by members.

Parking for members and guests is located at the front of the building. A parking space in the building’s heated first-floor garage is available for an additional monthly cost. Because of limited garage space, requests for parking spaces in the garage are allocated using a waiting list.

Yes, four parking spaces in the building’s garage have individually metered outlets for electric vehicle charging.

Scheduled van service is available, at no extra charge, to take members to banks, grocery and drug stores, and other shopping destinations. A schedule and sign-up sheet is available on the desk at the front entry.
City bus service (routes 705 and 755, and Metro Mobility) is available at the cooperative building.

Yes, there is bike storage conveniently located in the building’s heated garage.

Yes, the building’s heated garage has a dedicated carwash bay for those who park in the garage. There is also a vacuum cleaner mounted on the wall next to the car-wash bay. All these facilities are for member use at no charge.

Yes, currently CCC offers lunch five days a week, Monday through Friday. Monday and Tuesday are lighter meals (soup and sandwiches or salads), while meals on Wednesday through Friday feature more substantial entrees. Meals are prepared on-site by the cooperative’s chef.
A sign-up sheet for meals is available outside the door to the Valley Room, the cooperative’s dining room. Members are free to bring guests and can sign up for a reserved table if desired; otherwise, seating for meals is open.
Members sign a billing slip for each meal and the cost of the meal is added to the unit’s monthly charge.

Mailboxes are located in the building lobby, just to the right of the main entrance door. (No need to go outdoors to get your mail!)
There are also larger mailboxes for parcel delivery.
Deliveries from UPS, Fedex, and other delivery services are left on a table in the lobby by the mailboxes. Parcels are indoors, protected from weather and theft.

Every floor has a trash room with an intake to the building’s trash chute. Trash must be properly bagged before being thrown down the chute.
There are two large recycling dumpsters in the building’s garage on the first floor. One dumpster is for mixed recycling, while the other dumpster is reserved for corrugated cardboard boxes.

Xfinity provides the cooperative’s high-speed internet and cable TV services at significant cost savings because of bulk purchasing. Cable TV services include an expanded selection of channels over basic cable.

Two guest rooms are available for rental by members. They are located next to each other on the third floor of the building.
Reservations are made in the front office.
Payment for guest rooms is added as part of a member’s monthly charge.

Each additional cost will be added to a member’s monthly charges as a separate line item.

Several rooms and common areas are available for members to reserve for co-op or private events.
There is no charge to members for use of these common areas.

A member may have a pet or companion animal (dog, domesticated cat, bird, fish), subject to approval.
There is a $300 pet deposit along with a pet policy that has to be signed by all members with pets.

Building Safety
The front entry door is locked.
Members must use a key to enter.
Guests and visitors may use the vestibule phone to call a member for entry.
Other exterior doors are locked. Members can open them with a key.
Fire Safety
CCC is a fire-resistant building because of its concrete and steel construction.
Smoke detectors and sprinkler heads are located in each individual unit and in hallways and common areas.
Fire extinguishers are located throughout the building in halls and in the garage.
An emergency alert system sounds a siren, flashes strobes, and delivers spoken instructions in the event of a building emergency.
Pull cords for health emergencies
Emergency pull cords are in each unit’s bathroom(s) and bedroom(s).
Pulling a cord alerts and dispatches emergency services.
The police and fire station are located across Rhode Island Avenue from the cooperative building.

CCC runs by volunteers! As a member you are free to volunteer as much or as little as you choose. We encourage you to volunteer for things that you enjoy. Don’t volunteer for things that you dislike.

Units are heated by hot-water baseboard heating with individual thermostats. Air conditioning is provided by wall electric air conditioners (one or two air conditioners per unit).

You can sell your cooperative membership share that entitles you to live in your unit.
The cooperative management will assist you with selling your membership share.
The cooperative maintains a wait-list of buyers who are interested in buying available shares.
The unit will be listed as available on the cooperative’s website.
Members are responsible for the monthly carrying charge until the unit sells.
When the unit is sold, the cooperative is entitled to 6% of the purchase price.
If you desire, you may also hire a realtor to sell your share. (You will be responsible for any realtor fees.)
